The short version

What collision repair is

Collision repair is the process of returning a car to its pre-accident condition: the damaged area is taken apart, hidden damage is documented, structural and body panels are repaired or replaced, and the repair is refinished and blended so the new paint matches the rest of the car. In an insurance claim, the shop writes the repair plan, works with the insurer's adjuster, and files supplements for damage found after teardown. In California, you choose the shop — the insurer cannot require you to use theirs.

Your rights

You choose the shop. Not your insurer.

California law (Insurance Code §758.5) says an insurance company cannot require you to use a specific body shop, and once you've picked one, it can't push you to switch. If an adjuster says "we only cover repairs at our network shop," that isn't true — the insurer has to pay the reasonable cost to repair your car properly at the shop you choose. Tell them:

"I'm taking it to Round 2 Refinish, 446 W Orange Show Ln, San Bernardino."

This applies whether it's your insurer or the other driver's.

The paperwork

What we handle

We photograph and document the damage, write the estimate, send it to your adjuster, and if we find more damage once the car is apart we write a supplement and get approval — from your insurer and from you — before that work is done. California requires an itemized written estimate that shows every part and whether it's new, used, or aftermarket; ours does.

Supplements are normal, not a red flag

The insurer's first estimate is usually written from photos, before the bumper comes off. Broken brackets, bent reinforcements and damaged sensors only show on teardown. Each one gets a photo and goes to the adjuster before it becomes work.

Process

How a claim moves through the shop

Five steps. Nothing beyond the approved estimate gets done without your OK and the adjuster's.

  1. Photos and claim intake

Text photos of the damage and your claim number to (760) 881-5162. We work with every insurance company, and Vasken matches the insurer's estimate so there's one repair plan.

  2. Teardown and blueprint

Bumper, fender and lights come off. Brackets, absorbers, sensors and the radiator support get photographed and written into the repair plan, so nothing is fixed on a guess.

  3. Supplement, with your OK

The extra items go to your adjuster with photos. Nothing on that list is touched until your insurer and you have both approved it.

  4. Repair and refinish

Structural and panel work by I-CAR-trained technicians. Color matched from your factory code and a spray-out card, blended into the next panel, baked in the booth.

  5. Reassembly, checks, pickup

Lights, trim and sensors back on and checked. We walk the car with you in daylight. You pay your policy deductible to the shop; we settle the rest with your insurer.

Everyday cars, most of what we do

The feed leans toward show cars. The bays lean toward commuters: a rear-ended sedan, a bumper that met a parking post. Same teardown, same booth, same blend.

Money questions

Why here

Why R2R for a claim

  • I-CAR-trained technicians

I-CAR is the collision industry's not-for-profit training organization, and it's where our technicians train.

  • Every insurer, one owner who picks up the phone

Vasken handles the claim, talks to the adjuster, matches the insurer's estimate and writes supplements — with your approval.

  • Supplements written with photos, approved by you

Every hidden-damage item has a photo behind it and your OK before it becomes work.

  • A second-generation painter finishes the refinish

Armen paints; his father painted cars too. The refinish gets the same booth as a full repaint.

  • Photo and video updates while your car is here

You'll get photos of your car in the booth before you think to ask for them.

One example: a nearly new EV in a special red that met road debris — gouged bumper, broken headlight, dented hood — repaired and color-matched as one claim.

Straight answers

Collision repair and insurance questions

Do I have to use the body shop my insurance company recommends?

No. California law (Insurance Code §758.5) says an insurer cannot require you to use a specific shop, and once you've chosen one it can't steer you elsewhere. Tell your adjuster the car is at Round 2 Refinish and we take it from there.

Why did the estimate go up after you took the car apart?

The insurer's first estimate is usually written from photos or a walk-around, before the bumper or fender comes off. Once we tear down we can see broken brackets, bent reinforcements and damaged sensors. We document each item with photos and submit a supplement to your insurer, and we get your OK before that work is done.

Do I pay my deductible to you or to the insurance company?

To the shop, at pickup. The insurer pays the repair total minus your deductible; you cover the deductible. We can't reduce or offset it — California law (Penal Code §551) prohibits that.

Will the paint match?

Yes. We match from your car's factory code, spray a test card, compare it to the car in daylight, and blend the color into the adjacent panel so there's no hard edge. Every factory color has variants; blending is how a repair disappears.

How long will it take, and will I get updates?

It depends on parts and adjuster approvals more than on our hands-on time. We give you a date once both are in, and we send photo and video updates while the car is here.

What people say after a claim

Needed my windshield replaced and luckily found the right place to have it done. Vasken and Armen are super good people and will definitely take care of you. If you're looking to get your tint, wrap, body work, etc done then Round 2 Refinish is the place to go
