What it is
Paint protection film for an I-10 commute
Paint protection film for a Fontana commute is clear urethane laid over the bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors and headlights, the surfaces that meet the I-10 head-on every trip. Sand, grit and small gravel thrown up by freeway traffic land in the film instead of your clear coat, and a damaged section of film can be replaced without repainting the panel under it.
- Leading edges and headlights. The bumper face, the front few inches of hood and fenders, and both lenses take most of what the 10 throws.
- Mirrors. The caps stick out into the air at freeway speed and collect their share.
- Lower doors and rockers, if your week also includes the 15 or surface streets that see heavy truck traffic.
- Chips already through the paint get refinished first. Film laid over an open chip just seals it in.
Interstates carry more loose debris than surface streets; film takes the small stuff, not dents.
The 10 through Fontana
Who you share the I-10 with
SBCTA (2022) described the I-10 from the I-15 in Ontario to Pepper Ave in Colton as carrying 25,000 trucks on a typical weekday, and cited the American Transportation Research Institute's ranking of the I-10/I-15 interchange as the 9th most critical truck bottleneck in the U.S. Source: the county transportation authority's freight corridor funding application to the state.
If your commute uses that stretch, from Sierra Ave east to Pepper Ave in Colton you're in the same lanes as that freight.
A car following at freeway speed meets whatever the road throws up bumper and hood first. Film doesn't change the traffic. For the small, fast stuff, it changes what a hit leaves behind: a nick in a replaceable layer instead of a chip in the paint.

What going on wet looks like
This is a real install from our floor. The sheet floats on slip solution so it can slide into position, gets drawn across the lens and bumper corner, then the water is pushed out and heat helps it hold the curves.
On a car that lives on the 10, the areas to get right are the low face of the bumper and the leading lip of the hood. Freeway grit arrives low and head-on.

Hood and front fenders filmed edge to edge, plus the bumper, mirror caps and lenses, so no seam crosses the hood where grit can catch.
Lenses on their own
Grit pits a lens a little at a time, and pitting dims the beam at night. Lens film is a small job on its own and adds onto any front package.
Rockers, for the 15 and truck routes
Worth adding if you also run the 15 or drive truck routes on local streets. The panels behind the front wheels catch what the tires fling back.

Express lanes planned on your stretch
SBCTA's I-10 Express Lanes Phase 2 covers 11.1 miles from the I-15 to Pepper Ave in Colton, which puts Fontana squarely inside it. When we checked in September 2026, the SBCTA project page said construction was slated to begin in early 2026. Check there for where it stands now.
Getting here
11.9 miles east to Orange Show Lane
From Fontana City Hall at 8353 Sierra Ave it's 11.9 miles: Sierra Ave south 2.4 miles to the I-10, east on the 10 for 7.2 miles, then the short connector to I-215 exit 41 (Orange Show Rd / Auto Plaza Dr). From the exit it's W Orange Show Rd, S E St and W Orange Show Ln. About 18 minutes with no traffic.
Coming after work, you're heading into the slow part: eastbound I-10 backs up at the Cherry, Citrus, Sierra and Cedar interchanges in the evening peak (SBCTA, 2022). If that's your window, ask for an early drop-off or a late pick-up; both are by appointment.

FAQ
Fontana PPF questions
I'm only on the 10 a couple of days a week. Do I still need full front?
Not necessarily. Partial front, meaning the bumper, mirror caps, lenses and the leading strip of hood and fenders, covers where most strikes land on an occasional freeway car. If the 10 becomes your daily run, the whole front is where we'd point you.
Does film stop rocks on the I-10?
It absorbs the small, fast stuff: gravel, grit and the road rash that chips paint. A big impact can still dent the panel or cut through the film, and that section would need new film, quoted separately.
My hood already has chips from the 10. Can you film over them?
We'd rather not seal chips in. Anything through the clear gets refinished in our booth first, then filmed once the paint has cured, and we'll tell you when it's ready. Paint work is covered on our auto paint page.
What's the easiest way to the shop from Fontana?
Sierra Ave to the I-10 east, then I-215 exit 41 for Orange Show Rd, 11.9 miles from City Hall. Eastbound I-10 backs up at the Cherry, Citrus, Sierra and Cedar interchanges in the evening peak (SBCTA, 2022), so allow extra time for a late pick-up.
Will the planned I-10 express-lane work affect my film?
Work zones bring lane shifts and temporary surfaces while they last. Film protects the front the same way there as anywhere else. If something hits hard enough to damage the film, text us photos.
